The focus of Norwalk Hospital’s education programs is to train competent, caring medical professionals who will be fulfilled by their careers in medicine.
The hospital offers several residency programs, including a fully accredited, three-year residency program in Internal Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology, as well as a one-year physician assistant residency program in Surgery.
The Department of Medicine sponsors subspecialty fellowship training programs in Gastroenterology, Pulmonary, and Sleep. The Section of Pulmonary Medicine also sponsors a School of Respiratory Care in conjunction with the Norwalk Community College.
Because of the Norwalk Hospital’s location in a small city/suburban community setting, those pursuing educational programs at the hospital are challenged immensely by varied clinical experiences. There’s ample opportunity for first-hand experience, both in the hospital facilities, as well as in the offices of private physicians in the area. Individuals can also pursue more academic interests both at Norwalk Hospital and at Yale University School of Medicine.
The Community
Because of our size and the urban diversity of the Norwalk community, the Hospital offers residents a widely varied case mix, and a real world look at what they will face in their own medical practice.
The Hospital is set high on a hill with a sweeping view of Long Island Sound and provides easy access to residency accommodations and the many cultural and social amenities the New York metropolitan area has to offer.
While pursuing their education at the Hospital, residents have a unique opportunity to explore the highly desirable and varied practice opportunities that abound throughout lower Fairfield County, Connecticut. This area has the largest concentration of major corporate headquarters, aside from New York City, in the tri-state area and has attracted a well-educated technical and professional population.
Public school systems are among the best in the nation and lovely residential communities complement lively urban areas.
