Level III NICU

At Norwalk Hospital’s Jeffrey Peter Bauer Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) we’re proud to offer exceptional intensive care for newborns that is attentive, personalized, warm and caring. This Level III neonatal intensive care unit is staffed by an experienced team of neonatologists and NICU nurses 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

All of our neonatologists—physicians who specialize in the care of premature and high-risk newborns—are board-certified in neonatology.

Our neonatal stations are equipped with custom-designed support modules and built-in bedside monitoring systems. Large windows that overlook the Long Island Sound let in plenty of natural light, which has shown to be beneficial for critically ill infants.

Health outcomes for our preemies and special-needs infants are consistently among the best in the nation.

Our NICU has an isolation room, a procedures room for special tests, a conference room for parents to meet with the neonatal team, and “on-call” rooms so we have neonatologists and specialists onsite, 24/7.

As necessary, our team works with specialists throughout Norwalk Hospital, including pediatric neurologists, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, audiologists, radiological technologists and ultra-sonagraphers.

Our NICU is dedicated to meeting the emotional needs of the family. Our “family room” allows close friends and relatives to gather together in support of the parents. Our “parent’s room” provides a place where parents can be alone with their baby. A private breastfeeding area allows for one-on-one, in-depth discussions between mothers and our lactation consultant.
