Talk on The Opioid Epidemic at Norwalk Hospital

Norwalk Hospital’s Department of Spiritual Care will host a community program open to all featuring national expert in addiction treatment and research David Gastfriend, M.D.

Scientific advisor at the Treatment Research Institute, Dr. Gastfriend will present a talk entitled “The Opioid Epidemic: Facts, Treatments and Hope” on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 7 pm in the Norwalk Hospital Perkin Auditorium.

An addiction psychiatrist, Dr. Gastfriend directed addiction research at Massachusetts General Hospital and was an investigator in the NIDA Cocaine Collaborative Study, the NIAAA COMBINE Study and the NIDA Clinical Trials Network. His ASAM Criteria research contributed to their endorsement by most states, the VA and DOD.

Dr. Gastfriend’s numerous scientific publications include The ASAM Criteria and Addiction Treatment Matching. His CONTINUUM – The ASAM Criteria Decision Engine™ and ASAM’s Triage Tool™ are being piloted across Los Angeles County and Massachusetts. He has consulted to the governments of Belgium, China, Iceland, Israel, Norway, Russia and the United States.
