August  27,  2010 -- Sewing Group Comforts and Cheers Patients

TALENT AT WORK - Norwalk Hospital Volunteers Carol DeVito and Margaret Karl of Norwalk are among the "Designs for Recovery" group, who meet weekly to sew for patients at Norwalk Hospital. They share their talent and an enjoyable hobby to help cheer and comfort patients.

August  27,  2010 -- Robot Demonstrations at i.Park and Norwalk Hospital as part of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Could you imagine what it would be like to operate a robot?  The general public will have the opportunity to do just that during a demonstration of the daVinci Robotic Surgical System at the Health and Wellness Center of Norwalk Hospital at i.park on Tuesday, September 7th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at Norwalk Hospital in the main lobbyon Wednesday, September 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  These community health education events are being offered as a public service during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.  Health professionals will be available to demonstrate the robot and answer questions about prostate cancer.

August  24,  2010 -- NORWALK HOSPITAL OFFERS FREE PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING DURING PROSTATE CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

Norwalk Hospital Urologists will be conducting a free prostate cancer screening in observance of  “National Prostate Cancer Awareness Week.”  The screening, sponsored by the Whittingham Cancer Center of Norwalk Hospital, and coordinated by Linda Versea, APRN, MSN, administrative manager of the Whittingham Cancer Center, will be held on Saturday, September 18, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the Cancer Center.

August  20,  2010 -- RENOWNED PHYSICIAN AND CANCER SURVIVOR DR. WENDY HARPHAM TO SPEAK AT NORWALK HOSPITAL SEPTEMBER 22

Norwalk Hospital is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a presentation by the renowned physician, cancer survivor and author Wendy S. Harpham, M.D. on September 22, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the Richard S. Perkin Auditorium of Norwalk Hospital.  Registration is at 5:30 p.m.

   Dr. Harpham is an internal medicine physician, wife and mother of three children who was diagnosed with a chronic form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma at the age of 36. Since being diagnosed, she has lived through seven recurrences of cancer and has devoted her career to educating and inspiring cancer patients and physicians about how to get excellent cancer care and live life as fully as possible despite a cancer diagnosis.



August  19,  2010 -- Hospital Awarded for Use of Technology to Enhance Patient Care

Norwalk Hospital is one of just three hospitals in Connecticut—and only 134 in the nation—to be recognized by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) for achieving a Stage 6 designation for use of advanced information technology (IT) to support clinical care and patient safety.

   According to Vice President and Chief Information Officer Jamie M. Mooney, this important, national distinction is a testament to the Hospital’s commitment to using automated electronic and information technology to “make our nationally recognized patient care and safety even better.”
