Critical Care

The Intensive Care, also known as Critical Care, Unit (ICU) at Norwalk Hospital provides critical care for patients whose condition is life-threatening due to:

  • Trauma
  • Infection
  • Complications from surgery
  • Severe breathing problems
  • Cardiac arrest or acute heart disease

Critical Care is led by our ICU team of board-certified doctors called intensivists. The physicians are supported by a highly trained specialty staff, including respiratory therapists and registered nurses specially trained in the care of critical patients. Norwalk Hospital’s Critical Care Unit has been nationally recognized for the exemplary level of care provided. The Unit’s nurses have been awarded the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses three times, the only hospital in Fairfield County to receive this prestigious national award three times.
