NORWALK, Connecticut, March 9, 2021 — Nuvance Health’s Norwalk Hospital has welcomed four new members to its Board of Directors: Pablo D. Colón III, MaryGrace Gudis, Susan G. Weinberger, Ed.D and Michael L. Witherspoon, JD. These community leaders will guide the strategic direction of Norwalk Hospital during a critical time when access to quality care close-to-home is more imperative than ever before.
Norwalk Hospital will benefit from the new board members’ areas of expertise including business and philanthropic development, diversity and inclusion, communications, education and legal services.
“Our new Trustees will strengthen Norwalk Hospital as we continue to address the COVID-19 crisis and ensure our communities have a first-class hospital in our backyard,” said Patricia Bam, Chair, Norwalk Hospital Board of Directors.
Get to know the new board members:
Pablo D. Colón III
Pablo D. Colón III is director of development and philanthropic services at Fairfield County’s Community Foundation. As a member of the Revenue Generation and Business Development Team, Colón works on the strategy and execution of the organization’s overall fundraising and business development plan. Colón also leads the Community Foundation’s efforts to diversify its donor and fundholder base and is the staff liaison to the Community Foundation’s Professional Advisors Council.
Before joining the Community Foundation, Colón was executive vice president and chief operating officer of Radio Cumbre Broadcasting, where he oversaw strategic and community engagement initiatives. Earlier in his career, Colón held senior executive, management and staff roles in the Global Relocation and Expatriate Management industry in the United States, United Kingdom and Costa Rica.
Colón serves as the vice chair of the United Way of Coastal Fairfield County and vice president of the Greater Bridgeport Latino Network. He is also a board member of the Young Survival Coalition, a national organization dedicated to addressing the needs of young adults affected by breast cancer.
Colón holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Fairfield University. He lives in Stratford with his wife Erin Colón and their two daughters.
MaryGrace Gudis has served as director of the Norwalk Hospital Foundation Board since 2011. With a personal interest in history, Gudis has devoted more than 1,000 hours researching and compiling Norwalk Hospital’s evolution and history.
Gudis is a member and volunteer at Christ and Holy Trinity Church in Westport. She is also involved in several collegiate initiatives providing educational assistance to disadvantaged students.
Gudis has held several senior communications positions in the financial industry throughout her 20-year career, including director of public information and senior liaison to the Board of Directors at the Federal Reserve Bank.
Gudis holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a focus in finance from Southern Methodist University. She lives in Westport with her husband Mark Gudis who currently serves on the Board of Directors for Nuvance Health. In 2016, The American Red Cross recognized Mr. and Mrs. Gudis with the organization’s Spirit of the Red Cross Hero Award for donating 100 automated external defibrillators (AED) to Westport and nearby communities. They have three children, Greg, Elliot and Graham, who work in the financial, media and consumer product industries.
Susan G. Weinberger, Ed.D
Susan G. Weinberger, Ed.D is president of the Mentor Consulting Group (MCG) in Norwalk, a company she founded in 1998 that evaluates and implements school- and site-based and community mentoring programs internationally. Her clients include The Governor’s Prevention Partnership and the United States Departments of Education, Justice and Health and Human Services. Prior to MCG, Dr. Weinberger was the public affairs officer of Norwalk Public Schools in Connecticut.
Dr. Weinberger serves as vice president of the Board of Directors for Norwalk Community College Foundation, and a board director of Riverbrook Regional YMCA and United Way of Coastal Fairfield County.
Dr. Weinberger is published widely and the recipient of many recognitions and awards including most recently Riverbrook Regional YMCA Distinguished Citizen of the Year. She holds a doctorate in education from the College of Business and Public Management at the University of Bridgeport, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Weinberger lives in Norwalk with her husband, Norman J. Weinberger, MD and they have two children and five grandchildren.
Michael L. Witherspoon, JD
Michael L. Witherspoon, JD is a licensed attorney in the State of Connecticut. He worked at various law firms before establishing the Law Office of Michael L. Witherspoon, LLC in 2005. Witherspoon takes pride in representing his clients in a professional and just manner and his ability to find a solution that is acceptable to all parties involved.
In addition to his own firm, Witherspoon has been legal counsel to the Observatory Place Condominium Association, Inc. in Norwalk for many years. He learned how a condominium’s board manages the affairs of its complex in an ever-changing real estate market.
Since 2016, Witherspoon has volunteered for the City of Norwalk as a Zoning Commissioner, where he has served as secretary and vice chair of the Commission.
Witherspoon holds a Juris Doctorate degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law, and a Bachelor in Business Administration and Marketing degree from the University of South Carolina. He lives in Norwalk.
