Danbury, Connecticut – February 6, 2017 -- Sonic Healthcare and Western Connecticut Health Network (WCHN) announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement to form a joint venture to enhance laboratory services for individuals and healthcare providers throughout Connecticut.
The joint venture will operate under the name of Constitution Diagnostics Network (CDN). This new entity combines the existing, high-quality, clinical and anatomic pathology laboratory testing capabilities of WCHN’s three community-based hospitals (Danbury Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and New Milford Hospital) with esoteric testing capabilities offered by Sonic Healthcare USA through its Sunrise Medical Laboratories division based in Hicksville, New York and other affiliates.
The joint venture will combine the rapid turnaround times delivered by local Connecticut-based WCHN laboratories with the advanced physician practice connectivity, specialized testing services and nationally-renowned client support Sonic Healthcare USA is known for. Sunrise is the flagship laboratory of Sonic’s Northeast Division, and is known for its community based, medically led laboratory services.
The combined healthcare services will result in more choices for local physicians and healthcare providers. As an added benefit, approximately 80
percent of the testing completed by CDN will be performed at WCHN, maintaining critical jobs and skills along with the provision of healthcare services within the State, plus associated job growth related to laboratory support services. “This new joint venture will put Connecticut doctors and patients first, facilitating their choice for high quality, high service laboratory testing within their own state,” said Alan Greenberg, President of Sunrise Medical Laboratories.
“We are delighted to be partnering with WCHN. This new company (CDN) is the next step forward in a healthcare collaboration that combines the complementary expertise and capabilities of Sonic Healthcare and WCHN to accelerate the development of quality laboratory services in Connecticut. It is also part of Sonic Healthcare’s national strategy to create innovative laboratory affiliations with leading health systems around the country” said Steve Shumpert, Sonic Healthcare USA’s Chief Executive Officer.
“This joint venture enhances our capabilities to provide more comprehensive laboratory testing services for residents and healthcare providers throughout Connecticut, and is part of WCHN’s strategy to continually find ways to deliver value-based care and services by increasing quality while reducing cost” said Michael Daglio, Chief Strategy Officer of WCHN. “Through this joint venture with Sonic Healthcare USA, we have an exceptional new offering (lab services) which will benefit patients and providers, while providing business growth opportunities for our newly-combined laboratory services company.”
